This was such a fascinating book! I could hardly put this down, it was so captivating.
There's something so interesting in reading about other people who have lived lives that are so incredibly different from oneself and most other people. I appreciate that Westover has let us into her childhood and her world, and what's really interesting about this is that this isn't a woman looking back at something that happened 50 years ago - it's a fairly recent thing and that adds a kind of rawness to it.
The writing in this is really good; it's intelligent and honest. Westover is a person I think is pretty easy to connect to because she really does let you, as a reader, in. It was heartbreaking and yet wonderful to see her grow up and getting out, and what role her education played in that. She is to be applauded for her brain.
I think this is a really good memoir and it's well worth the read, especially if you're interested in religion, cults and the power of education.
